Genetics research and G Guide - Resources and Review

Newsletter carrying articles, interviews, and news in bioinformatics.

Telomeres are the physical ends of linear eukaryotic chromosomes. They are specialised nucleoprotein complexes that have important functions, primarily in the protection, replication, and stabilisation of the chromosome ends. TelDB is a telomere information centre which provides new information about telomeric and subtelomeric regions of chromosomes and telomere literature references, including a user interface to the searchable telomere literature database. TelDB includes over 1100 telomere related citations from 200 journals, covering over 80 species.

A consortium to determine the complete DNA sequence of the euchromatic genome of the fruitfly, Drosophila melanogaster, and to develop experimental and computational tools to probe its biological significance. Includes a searchable encyclopedia of drosophila, genomic DNA sequences and software tools for sequence analysis.

Journal dedicated to the dissemination of research dealing with the tropical and subtropical waters of the world's oceans. All aspects of marine biology are treated, and papers in the physical, chemical and geological sciences are also published if pertinent to marine biology. Major fields of interest are zoology, botany, microbiology, biochemistry, and fisheries. Areas of particular interest include experimental ecology, ecological dynamics, theoretical biology, genetics, systematics, evolution, biogeography, behaviour, molecular biology, and physiology.

Newsletter covering the latest advances in genetics including links to further reports and resources. Archives from 1996 onwards available.

The Center maintains the Genome Sequence Database (GSDB). It is one of four international centres providing central organisation and analysis of genetic information from researchers worldwide, including the Human Genome Project, the effort to map and sequence the complete human genetic structure. Also includes information on the ethics of human genetics.

Contents and abstracts for the journal Genetics. Searchable by keyword, with hyperlinks from cited references to Medline and to the full text of many other online journals. Focus is on research in genetics and related scientific disciplines. Subscription required for full text articles.

Software directory related to molecular biology and genetics. Domains include DNA, protein, molecular evolution and databases.

An international forum for debate and analysis of the deCode Project, established to produce a genomic map of the people of Iceland. Information is provided about gene mapping projects, highlighting new developments in the field of genetics, and details are given relating to the scientific, political, economic, religious, and ethical issues involved.

An extensive, annotated and non
redundant set of protein sequence databases in which over 115,000 entries are classified into family groups and alignments of each group are available.

Resource for employment and career opportunities in Genomics, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology and Biocomputing. Includes listings of jobs by company (alphabetical and geographical) and by category, and provides facilities to post CV information and new job vacancies.

KEGG is an effort to computerize current knowledge of molecular and cellular biology in terms of the information pathways that consist of interacting molecules or genes and to provide links from the gene catalogs produced by genome sequencing projects.

A collection of numerous articles covering methods of genetic analysis, molecular genetic processes, cellular and organismal genetic processes, genome phylogeny and classification. Abstracts and full text available.
