Geological surveys and G Guide - Resources and Review

The UK national centre for earth science information, founded in 1835. Its primary functions are to maintain and revise geological information for the land and offshore areas of the United Kingdom and the nearby continental shelf. Its work relates directly to mineral, energy and groundwater resources, land use, geological hazards, and the protection of the environment.

Details of the geology of Indonesia, concentrating on gas and petroleum resources.

The Geology Library has more than 100,000 volumes and 46,000 geologic maps, including all publications of the US Geological Survey, publications of most state geological surveys, and those of many foreign countries. Regional emphasis is on the Southwestern United States, Texas, and Mexico.

The BAS undertakes a programme of science in the Antarctic region, giving the UK an authoritative voice in Antarctic affairs. BAS research covers all aspects of science and exploits the unique natural laboratory conditions in the Antarctic to address problems of global and regional relevance. BAS also discharges the UK's responsibilities for complying with the Antarctic Treaty and administers the British Antarctic Territory.

The US geological survey provides reliable, impartial information to describe and understand the earth. This information is intended to minimize loss of life and property from natural disasters; manage water, biological, energy, and mineral resources; enhance and protect the quality of life; and contribute to wise economic and physical development.

A collection of geographic and geological materials including digital maps, databases, book
type reports, fact sheets and computer programs. Includes full text of geological surveys, fact sheets on mapping and hazards, earthquake information, and an opportunity to pose questions to a geologist about volcanoes, earthquakes, mountains, rocks, maps, ground water, lakes and rivers.

A research centre that provides consultancy services and basic geological information essential for assessment of raw materials, nature conservation, environmental studies, construction, land use planning and for new applications, such as medical geology.

Interactive atlas of the Antarctic providing research results, collections of data, and descriptions of geological projects conducted in the region. Contains several layers of ecological information concerning rock outcrops, sand, snow, lakes, contours, and springs.

National geological institute of Italy.

Canada's premier agency for geoscientific information and research.

The Geological Survey of Namibia houses the results of around 90 years of mineral exploration, mining and research in Namibia. Includes regional geological mapping and geophysical surveys, applied geoscience and geotechnology.

AGSO's responsibilities are to provide geoscientific maps, research and information to support sustainable development of Australia's mineral and petroleum industries, management of the Australian Ocean Territory, identification and mitigation of geological hazards, and sustainable management of Australia's land and groundwater resources.

Variety of information covering geological research in Illinois, such as the 1998
1999 Annual Report, fossil information, and a map and directory of coal mines in the O'Fallon Quadrangle, available as a PDF file. Additional material includes bibliographic details of publications, links to other U.S. State Geological Surveys, an Ask a Geologist section with dinosaur information, and documents on topics such as the history of oil and gas production in Illinois.
