Higher education research data and H Guide - Resources and Review

National centre to coordinate access to and facilitate the creation and use of scholarly electronic resources in the arts and humanities.
 
The JISC currently funds a number of data centres, data services, and projects, using different delivery modes, which contribute to the electronic content available to the UK higher education community. This document describes the parameters of the distributed national electronic resource, sets out policies for its development, and identifies areas for collaboration with data providers and data users outwith the HE sector.
 
The Data Archive at the University of Essex houses the largest collection of accessible computer
readable data in the social sciences and humanities in the United Kingdom. It is a national resource centre, disseminating data throughout the United Kingdom and, by arrangement with other national archives, internationally. Founded in 1967, it now houses approximately seven thousand datasets of interest to researchers in all sectors and from many different disciplines.
 
Information on academic research in Scotland, aiming to provide a link between industry and academia. Provides a searchable listing of new applications by institution, news of tenders and other funding opportunities, and directories of people, research groups, projects, and services.
 
Contains details of software and dataset products which are available to the academic community at special discount prices. Each record includes supplier details, education price and CHEST Licence Conditions.
 
Internationally accessible union catalogue providing free access to the combined online catalogues from some of the largest university research libraries in the UK and Ireland.
 
Database indexing over 20,000 audio
visual teaching materials, covering a range of subjects. Reference information about films, video programmes, slides, sound recordings, computer courseware, and interactive multimedia is available.

BIDS is a national provider of network access to commercially supplied bibliographic database services for UK higher education and research. Many services require registration.
 
MIMAS provides a range of national dataset services to the UK academic community. These include online access to strategic research and teaching datasets, specialist support (e.g. training courses and documentation), access to software packages and computing resources required for data storage.
 
EDINA provides the UK Higher Education and research community with access to a library of data, information and research resources (requires registration).
 
A JISC funded programme to deliver a national electronic journal service to the UK higher education and research community. There is extensive information about the service and details of all journals available.
 
Provides services to support the conversion of high volumes of teaching, learning, and scholarly materials from paper and other formats into electronic media. Offers experience and skills in a range of areas including rare book handling and preservation, alongside technical issues surrounding digitisation and information access.
 
BUFVC aims to promote the production, study and use of film and related media in British higher education and research. It was founded in 1948 as the British Universities Film Council. It runs a television recording back
up service on behalf of universities and colleges, and its AVANCE database contains thousands of records of audio-visual materials suitable for degree-level teaching.
 
Aims to obtain quality commercial software, datasets, training materials and other IT products for the education and research community.
 
NISS provides the UK education and research community with access to a wide range of information about education, as well as access to networked information resources. There are five main information categories: Education (HE, FE, schools, funding bodies, UK Government), Reference (OPACs, bookshops, museums, ATHENS subscription services, external data services), News (newspapers, current affairs, business sources), Studentzone (information of interest to HE students both on and off campus) and Noticeboard (jobs, research posts, conferences).
